The sedge Carex flacca (blue creeping sedge) bears pastel yellow blossoms during early summer. The showy matte foliage is greyish green in colour, fine in texture and semi-evergreen.

Carex flacca tolerates drought, wet sites and light foot traffic, and is noted for being naturally resistant to deer.
